PPOC-MB

I’m feeling honoured today to announce that I’ve been selected as the Board Chair for PPOC-MB (Professional Photographers of Canada – Manitoba Region).

This is an association that stands for the things I believe in when it comes to my photography world. This is a group that meets regularly to educate and inspire photographers, both new to the industry and some long-timers. It’s really great to be able to get all of these people into the same room where the playing field is level and everyone is there to help, teach and learn.

Our photography world continues to evolve, with “photography” being ever-easier to come by. It’s important to me, in this age, to be able to educate photographers and consumers alike to the reasons why it’s important to hire a professional photographer. Being a member of PPOC has offered me the opportunity to put my work up in front of judges, who know far more about photography than I do, to have my work critiqued, and to learn from their comments. I’ve received 4 professional accreditations through PPOC and had the opportunity to enter into some tough provincial and national photo competitions. This year, I was fortunate enough to have received the honours of “Best Wedding Image”, selected from a large number of my peers in Manitoba. Having viewed the other images created by my peers, has made me realize that to really be “professional” you have to be willing to learn from your mistakes and you have to continually have the drive to better yourself and your craft. And to have a professional organization that stands behind you makes it so much easier to say to my customers “yes, by hiring me, you will received a higher standard of service and end-product”.

I hope that I’ll have the opportunity to influence and inspire many new and continuing photographers in the Manitoba region. I know that I too, have much to learn and I’m looking forward to the new opportunities that this position can offer.

And I’d also like to give a big thanks to those who have the confidence in me to lead this group. I know I’ve got some big shoes to fill and I hope to keep our local chapter moving forward and gaining more recognition in our community so that the photographers that really are working towards being the best can be recognized as such!

So please remember, the next time you’re hiring a photographer, when you’re hiring someone that displays the PPOC logo, you’re hiring someone who’s making the effort to stand out, and above the rest. Wouldn’t you want THEM to preserve your precious memories?
